Structural

If you own a home in Lakewood, you probably understand that the ‘charm’ of century homes can come with uncertainties. Over the years, your home or parts of your home have likely settled and shifted. Sometimes reinforcements and repairs may be necessary. Perhaps you have a wall you’d like to have removed to create space. Maybe some floors or uneven, or your porch doesn’t feel safe.

Either way, we can help. For a free consultation, click below and I can meet with you to discuss your concerns.

Make Your Home Last Another 100 Years.

  • Construction of a new porch or deck on a green house with red trim, showing wooden support beams, partially completed flooring, and surrounding greenery.

    Front Porches.

Columns, joists, beams can be replaced by using various types of jacks and lifts to temporarily secure the structure above. Our years of experience allows us to understand how structures work, load distributions, point loads; etc. which are all important components to ensure a project is successful every time.

  • Interior of a house under renovation, showing exposed wooden framing for a new wall, with some electrical wiring and plumbing installed. The background features a kitchen area with windows, a ceiling light, and tiled floor.

    Load Bearing Walls.

If you want to create a more open-concept feel in your home, kitchen, or other space—look no further. Clues such as the direction of hardwood floors, cracks in plaster to indicate which direction lathe (and joists) are facing, or if the wall is an exterior wall are just a few ways to help determine if a wall is truly considered a ‘load-bearing’ wall.

  • Photo of an unfinished ceiling with exposed wooden beams, pipes, and electrical wiring, showing the structural framework of a building under renovation.

    Structural Repairs.

In the photo above, a plumber from a previous renovation made the mistake of removing too much material from each joist to install a pipe, and made an attempt to add insufficient reinforcements. Fortunately, there are often ways to re-route necessary pipes or wiring and replace the compromised joists with new joists or LVL’s (very strong ‘laminated veneer lumber’).
