The Clifton

The master bathroom remodel on Clifton Blvd. in Lakewood in a house built in 1900 has been one of the most intensive remodels we’ve done.

Before demolition began, there were two closets emanating from each of the adjacent bedrooms. One of those rooms had several closets, so we removed one, and made the other closet smaller to allow enough space to accommodate a larger 10’ x 10’ bathroom.

The client requested that a freestanding tub, walk-in curb-less shower, 48” farmhouse sink vanity, and a toilet be installed within the room, with a pocket door.

Two of the greatest challenges were re-routing one of the waste stacks to be installed in a newly constructed wall, and planing down floor joists to accommodate the curb-less walk-in shower since the house has settled overtime. The deviation was about 1-1/4” over a span of 6 feet—a task which required a lot of patience to achieve the curb-less appeal, but also maintaining a perfectly flat and level floor with 8” x 8” porcelain tile over a heated Schluter DITRA uncoupling membrane.

This bathroom has all the ‘bells and whistles’ as John likes to say—programmable heated flooring, bidet with seat warmer and dryer, 60” fan with digital remote, all new MOEN valves and bath/shower components, 67” x 31” freestanding tub, solid-core 1-panel pocket door, oak shelves, farmhouse-style vanity, custom vanity top, tempered shower glass …the list goes on. Kristina, the owner, was nothing but patient and understanding throughout the three-month long process, and Dan’s cosmetic details helped tie everything together in the end.
